The closing date for the 2017 Africa Architecture Awards (AAA) is 30 June, and already participating architects have submitted interesting and inspired work.
The Awards grew out of the hugely successful Architecture for Social Gain programme Saint-Gobain ran in 2015 as part of its 350-anniversary celebrations. It seeks to celebrate design excellence and promote an increased awareness of the role and importance of architecture across Africa. Based on values rather than categories, the awards seek to honour established architects and encourage emerging and future talent.
Entries will be evaluated according to three criteria, namely innovation, identity and implementation.
Five entries from each category will be shortlisted. From these, two merit and one trophy winner will be chosen and announced at the awards ceremony on 28 September. One of the four trophy winners will be crowned overall winner and receive the grand prize of USD10 000.
The first round of judging takes place from 20 to 22 July at Saint-Gobain’s head office in Samrand, Johannesburg.
