Principles of conduct and action Saint-Gobain’s commitment to corporate social responsibility (CSR) is based on the Group's Principles of Conduct and Action. These key values were spelled out in 2003 to enable Saint-Gobain to build lasting relationships with customers, employees, suppliers, shareholders, communities and partners. The five Principles of Conduct are fundamental values that unite the entire Saint-Gobain community, from senior management to junior staff: Professional commitment; Respect for others; Integrity; Loyalty; and Solidarity. The four Principles of Action guide the actions of all corporate leaders and employees in the performance of their duties: Respect for the law; Caring for the environment; Compliance with workplace health and safety guidelines; and Respect for employee rights. International commitments The United Nations Global Compact By joining the United Nations Global Compact in 2003, Saint-Gobain confirmed its commitment to corporate social responsibility in line with its Principles of Conduct and Action. In 2009, Saint-Gobain endorsed two documents related to the Global Compact: Caring for Climate to fight against climate change; and The CEO Water Mandate for Water Resource Protection as part of the UN’s Millennium Development Goals. Human rights In 2008, Pierre-André de Chalendar, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Saint-Gobain, signed the UN declaration of management support for human rights. More than 150 companies have signed the declaration, initiated by the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights and the United Nations Global Compact. Transparency International Transparency International is a non-governmental organisation leading the fight against corruption. The dialogue with Transparency International helps to continue to improve the company’s prevention programmes. Saint-Gobain is committed to zero tolerance of corruption.
