Kenya is welcoming one of its first LEED* gold certified buildings, One Africa, in Nairobi for which Saint-Gobain glass supplied high performance glass. one_africa_2.jpg This unique master piece with its refined oval shape has a curtain wall façade with different angles and was built using selective solar control glass from Saint-Gobain. The most challenging aspect, is that each row sequence is a different size and the glazing panes are shaped, meant that stringent quality control for delivery had to be put in place. One Africa rises more than 20 floors above the ground, with retail and commercial space on the ground floor and four basement levels. The client required thermal and visual comfort and SGG COOL-LITE K ensures that 72% of the heat is blocked while allowing optimum light into the building. Other advantages include energy savings in both hot and cold climates, and reduced glare while keeping natural light. COOL-LITE is also an environmentally friendly product thanks to the building's reduced CO² output. The metallic oxides coating gives the glass a distinctive appearance. *Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) is the most widely used green building rating system in the world and a globally recognized symbol of sustainability achievement.
