With ductile iron pipes, Saint-Gobain facilitates the delivery of drinking water in African cities.


Transporting water from the Senegal river to Nouakchott (Mauritania) is possible because of 85 km of Saint-Gobain PAM pipes. In the Democratic Republic of Congo, 30 more kilometres of pipes deliver the drinking water supply.

Sanitation ductile iron networks also add value in sealing joints by eliminating flow risks to the accompanying sewage, which may pollute soil and groundwater, and attack neighbouring pipelines.

Saint-Gobain PAM works with communities, water dispensers and installation companies to improve its products.



Saint-Gobain PAM was selected for the Husab Mine water supply system project in Namibia, including 7 600 metric tons of ductile iron pipes and fittings.

The order for 48 988m of 600mm ductile iron pipes and associated fittings needed to supply water to a reservoir at Namibia’s Husab mine from the desalination plant near Swakopmund. The pipes and fittings were supplied between April and June 2015.

The Hydroclass and Classic pipelines run above ground. Saint-Gobain has introduced several innovations for this project, including the Universal Ve anchored pipe system for river crossings.

Saint-Gobain PAM also provided its services for on-site logistical and technical support.

Saint-Gobain PAM, through its local partner, managed the logistics by transporting pipes from Walvis Bay to the work site. The pipeline is now operated by The Namibia Water Corporation (Namwater).


The Mozambique Greater Maputo contract breaks ground in February 2017, with 33 kilotons of ductile cast iron pipes and 472 tons of fittings to be supplied by Saint-Gobain PAM.

The end user in Mozambique is FIPAG (Fundo de Investimento e Património de Abastecimento de Água) and the expansion is set to reach approximately 100 000 households around the Greater Maputo area.

Financed by the World Bank and awarded to the Belgian company DENYS, the project links the Corumana Dam to the city of Maputo.

This requires 91 km of complete pipelines, from 800 to 1 200 mm, with the Hydroclass Zinalium technology manufactured by Saint-Gobain PAM.

Saint-Gobain PAM will handle the entire supply chain from production to delivery on site and will bring a solution for customer clearance, transport, and logistics.
