Radisson Red
In 2015, the transformation of Grain Silo No. 6 into the Radisson Red Hotel at V&A Waterfront’s Silo’s District exemplified meticulous planning and collaboration, employing Gyproc and Isover materials to transition from brick to drywall. With a focus on space maximization and aesthetics, the project achieved larger dimensions and full skimmed walls for critical lighting areas. Various Gyproc Drywalling types provided fire ratings of 60 & 120 minutes, ensuring safety across 250 rooms, while a twin Stud system enhanced guest comfort with a 63dB rating. Cost savings were realized through reduced structural support needs and accelerated construction, culminating in Africa's first "Radisson Red" hotel featuring 252 rooms, event spaces, and a Rooftop Red entertainment area. Despite challenges, such as basement conditions, the hotel attained a five-star Green Star rating, reflecting V&A Waterfront’s sustainability philosophy. The project's commitment to sustainability and quality earned it a 5 Star Green Rating Certificate, with features like low VOC finishes and efficient resource utilization through natural lighting and facade design.
